AUTOMATED REFRACTION UNITS: A Hewitz Automated Optometry System is installed in the Optometry Chamber which ensures a smooth and automatic assessment of Visual Function during Preliminary Examination by the Optometrist. The Optometry Unit also possesses a Huwitz Automated Refraction Unit from Carl Zeiss, a TOPCON VISION CHART Projector and a TOPCON Automated Lens Meter for the accurate verification of a patient’s existing spectacle or contact lens prescription. A Manual Phoropter System from Topcon, Japan is also present as a backup measure.
VECTOR VISION CONTRAST SENSITIVITY TESTING SYSTEM: The Center is equipped with the Vector Vision Contrast Sensitivity Testing system, one of the very few installations in the country, confirming to modern standards of Visual Assessment. This modality of vision testing is fast gaining acceptance as the new gold standard in the qualitative assessment of vision in patients with Glaucoma, Cataracts, Diabetic Eye Disease and following the implantation of New Generation Multifocal Lens Implants.
EYE EXAMINATION UNIT: A single point stop for the patient to be examined for most Baseline and Routine Eye Examination
TOPCON SLIT LAMP BIOMICROSCOPE WITH IMAGING SYSTEM: The Center is equipped with a high end Slit Lamp Biomicroscope from TOPCON, Japan, which can help the Consultant to accurately observe and diagnose diseases afflicting the eye. In addition, the Slit Lamp is equipped with an Image Acquisition System which can allow relatives of the patient to simultaneously see and understand the eye as the Consultant examines the patient. Images from the patients eyes can then be stored for future reference (a valuable tool in assessing the progression of any disease), retrieved at will, printed as hard copy or emailed to the patient for purposes of records. These images can also be used for scientific research and publications in the future if required (with the explicit written permission of the patient).
The Center is equipped with a state of the Art CORNEAL TOPOGRAPHER from Oculus, Germany and a PACHYMETER from Tomey, Japan. The TOPOGRAPHER is a valuable tool in mapping the cornea for surface abnormalities and studying inherent aberrations of the human eye. The PACHYMETER is used in the measurement of Corneal Thickness. These instruments find application in the diagnosis, prognostication and treatment of various corneal diseases and also in the assessment of suitability for Refractive Procedures such as LASIK.
In addition, the Center has installed an additional PUPILOMETER software which is gaining increasing significance today in the assessment for Refractive Surgery and Multifocal Cataract Surgery, replacing and obviating the older methods of manual pupil measurements.
The Wavefront Aberrometer captures the complete aberrations of the human eye with data over the entire pupil (up to 7.0 mm). This aberrometry map is a valuable tool in understanding the higher order aberrations in the optical system of the human eye and helps in the planning of premium LASIK and Cataract surgeries with Advanced Generation Lens technologies like the Bifocal and Trifocal Multifocal and Toric IOLs.
The Center is one of the few Centers in the city to house the IOL MASTER from Carl Zeiss Medicals, Germany which is redefining standards in the measurement of Lens Power for replacement of Cataract during surgery. In addition, the Center also possesses the state of the art Conventional A-Scan Biometer AXIS II which is a gold standard in the measurement of IOL power for Cataract replacement. Pre-Operative Measurements of Corneal Power is done with the HUWITZ AUTOMATED KERATOMETER, once again replacing the errors associated with Manual Keratometry.
CEDS Eye Hospital also possesses the Carl Zeiss Nd:YAG Posterior Capsulotomy Laser for the OPD based management of Posterior Capsule Opacification following Cataract Surgery.
The above equipment are now considered gold standards in the detection, evaluation, measurements and follow up of Glaucoma. The Center also has tonometers which are portable and are capable of recording eye pressures in morbid patients who are bed bound or restricted to wheel chairs
The Nd: YAG laser is a valuable tool in the emergency management of a patient who presents to the clinic with an acute Angle Closure Glaucoma. Centers that do not have this tool, lose valuable time in referring the patient to the nearest facility.
FUNDUS FLUROSCEIN ANGIOGRAPHY UNIT from Carl Zeiss, Germany, which is used in the detection of complex diseases of the retina. The system has a facility wherein image records of the patient can be stored and backed up for retrieval at a future date. Image Records can also be emailed to the patient for records of the patient, on request
CIRRUS 500 HD- OCT from Carl Zeiss, Germany, is a tomographic retinal scanner to evaluate diseases affecting the anatomy of the retina and Optic Nerve. Using sophisticated Laser scanning hardware and software, high definition three dimensional images of the retina are constructed allowing the surgeon to study diseases like macular holes, retinal swellings seen in diabetic eye disease, Epiretinal membranes and other similar lesions. The HD-OCT permits the detection of anatomical lesions in the retina long before the appearance of clinical signs and symptoms, which helps to save valuable time, greatly improving the prognosis of these diseases by facilitating early management.
CARL ZEISS LUMERA OPERATING MICROSCOPE ON THE S8 MAGNETIC BRAKE STAND: The Center is the first in the country to install the Zeiss LUMERA Surgical Microscope which is a state of the art ophthalmic operating microscope. Live video during the surgical procedure can either be relayed simultaneously to the relatives in the Reception Area or can be recorded for viewing later.
ALCON INFINITI CATARACT REMOVAL SYSTEM from Alcon, USA: The Center is one of the very few Centers in the City to house the very high end Alcon Infiniti Phacoemulsification Vision System for the safe and effective removal of Cataract, conforming to all modern standards of Cataract Care. The system is equipped with the OZIL system and is upgradable to the AQUALASE System which are the most modern developments in the field of cataract surgery worldwide.
OPTIKON PULSAR MINIMAL STRESS PULSAR 2 PHACOEMULSIFICATION SYSTEM from Optikon, Italy: The Center also has a backup in the form of the new Optikon Phacoemulfication Machine PULSAR 2 which conforms to all modern standards of cataract surgery. Most parts used by these machines are completely disposable and not reusable conforming to the highest standards of hygiene.
VOLK MERLIN RETINA VIEWING SYSTEM from Volk, Germany is a state of the art optical system used in complex Retinal surgeries. This provides a clear and crisp view of the retina during surgery allowing for very fine and delicate procedures and greatly enhances the safety and success of otherwise difficult retinal procedures
STERILIZATION EQUIPMENT: Three State-of-the-art, digital, completely automatic, Flash Based Autoclaves from HANSHIN Medicals, Korea and STATIM, USA are installed to ensure minimum transition time during surgery and ensuring that every single instrument and surgical equipment can be safely sterilized prior to each individual surgery. IN ADDITION, an ETO Based Sterilizer from PCI, India, is also installed for the gas based sterilization of instruments that cannot be autoclaved. The ROTOSEALER, from Hanshin Medicals, Korea, has also been installed for the safe cutting and sealing of sterilization pouches for the surgical instruments. Care has been taken to see that no compromise has been made during the sterilization procedures.
ANESTHETIC EQUIPEMENT: A Boyles Apparatus as well as a Pulse Oximeter, EKG Recorder and External Defibrillator is being installed as part of Anesthetic Safety measurements during eye surgery which will be under the direct supervision of the attending anesthetist
Air Sterilizers and Dehumidifiers have been installed as standard equipment. The Center is run on a networking system with a HMS (Hospital Management Software) with EMR (Electronic Medical Records), eliminating the need for bulky patient files, misplaced or lost patient records. Each patient is electronically assigned an ID Number which can be used to locate and retrieve records in the future even if the patient follows up after several years. All records and images are backed up to the network server. Data from the network server can then be accessed by authorized personnel from a remote location. The attending surgeon can thus access and review patients data and records even from home or while on vacation through the internet and can even email patients their records or prescriptions if requested in an instant.
